Base equipment. The unit itself, in the configuration the seller is offering.

Two machines with identical model numbers can price 25 percent apart based on hours, attachments installed, and the condition of wear items at the time of sale.
Attachments, options, and add-ons.
Buckets, thumbs, couplers, undercarriage upgrades, and operator-station options show up as separate lines on the bill of sale. Each is financeable. Attachments alone can add 10 to 25 percent to a base machine price; specify which attachments are included in the financed transaction and which are buyer-supplied.
Delivery, setup, and training.
Delivery and setup typically add 1 to 4 percent of base price; training, where the dealer or manufacturer sends a representative on site, runs $1,500 to $5,000. Both are financeable and both are negotiable.
Sales tax and use tax.
Sales or use tax is owed in most states and typically rolls into the financed amount; the lender remits it at closing. State conformity rules vary, and a few states offer manufacturing or production exemptions that change the math. Confirm the tax line with the seller before signing rather than discovering it at funding.
Extended warranty, service contract, and consumables.
Powertrain and full-machine warranties on heavy equipment range from $1,500 to $15,000 depending on hour limits and term. Worth bundling when parts and labor exposure on the asset class is high. Decide before signing whether to roll the warranty in.
Who actually finances jib cranes

What underwriting weighs on jib cranes deals
The five factors below drive most of the rate variance we see across jib cranes applications. Lenders weigh them in roughly this order and price the deal off the combination. Your application is a story the underwriter reads against these five factors.
- Owner background and depth. Years of related industry experience, prior ownership of similar equipment, and any documented success operating the asset class affect underwriting. New entrants to a class price differently from established operators expanding within their lane.
- Time in business. The single most weighted factor for most equipment lenders. Two years in business opens up the full program menu. Under one year narrows the lender pool and often requires larger down payment.
- Geographic operating territory. Where the equipment will operate matters. Some lenders prefer single-state operation; others price interstate or cross-border use differently. The lender match changes if the equipment will operate outside the home state regularly.
- Financial statement quality. For transactions above $250,000, lenders weight the quality of financial statements: are they CPA-prepared, are they current within 90 days, do they reconcile to bank statements. Strong financial reporting opens up better pricing on larger transactions.
- Use of equipment. Will the asset generate revenue immediately, will it replace an existing producing asset, or is it additive capacity. Revenue-replacement deals close most easily.
The jib cranes pre-purchase walk
The dollars saved in equipment financing are made or lost at the pre-purchase walk, not in the rate negotiation. Saving 50 basis points on a $200,000 loan is real money; missing a $40,000 powertrain issue on the same unit is not recoverable. The walk-through items below cover what we have seen surface most often on funded deals that went sideways post-funding.
- Hours-meter or odometer history. Beyond the current reading, confirm the historical pattern of use. A unit with 4,000 hours from regular daily use is different from a unit with 4,000 hours from intermittent project work. Service records, when available, document the use pattern.
- Inspection by independent third party. For used equipment over $50,000, an independent mechanical inspection runs $300 to $800 and surfaces issues a walk-around will not catch. Lenders often require this for used equipment above a threshold.
- Hour or mileage reading verified. Photographed at signing, recorded in writing on the bill of sale, and matched to the seller representation. Hours and miles are the single biggest driver of asset value at term-end.
- Wear items documented. Tires, tracks, undercarriage, cutting edges, brakes. Photograph and note remaining life. These are the items that will need replacement first and that buyers under-budget for.
- Delivery and acceptance terms. Who pays for delivery, what condition the unit must be in at delivery, and what the buyer accepts. The funding documents will reference the delivery and acceptance certificate, which the lender uses to release payment to the seller.
- Emissions compliance. For diesel-powered equipment, confirm the unit meets current emissions requirements for the state and operation it will be used in. Tier 4 final compliance, urea/DEF system status, and after-treatment health all affect both legality of use and resale value.
Where jib cranes deals go sideways post-funding
Every one of the issues below is documented on the funding paperwork. The buyer signed off on each. The buyer surprise comes from the gap between what the dealer said in conversation and what the documents actually say. Read the documents at signing rather than after.
Acceptance-letter timing
The lender funds against your signed acceptance of the equipment. If the equipment arrives missing items, damaged, or not matching the bill of sale, do not sign the acceptance until the seller addresses the issue. Once acceptance is signed, the seller is funded and your leverage to resolve is dramatically reduced.
Insurance loss-payee language
The insurance policy must name the lender as loss payee for the full life of the loan. Verify the loss-payee language matches exactly what the lender requires (including their address and entity name). A mismatched loss payee often results in lender-placed insurance at three to five times open-market cost while the issue is resolved.
Operating lease end-of-term costs
FMV and TRAC leases include end-of-term obligations that surprise inexperienced lessees: excess wear and tear charges, return logistics, mileage or hour overages, and the fair market value buyout calculation itself. None of these are inherently bad, but knowing the rules at lease signing prevents end-of-term disputes.
Trade-in payoff timing
If your transaction includes a trade-in with an existing lien, the new lender pays off the trade-in lien as part of the funding. Verify the trade-in payoff amount the new lender uses matches the actual payoff from the prior lender (which can include accrued interest and fees through the funding date). A $500 to $2,000 gap is common if this is not reconciled.

Standard equipment loans on app-only programs (under $150K typically) close in 24 to 72 hours from doc submission. Full-financials programs run 3 to 7 business days. Titled equipment with title transfer adds 1 to 4 weeks.
Does a soft-pull pre-qualification affect my credit score?
No. A soft pull does not affect your credit score. The hard pull happens at final underwriting if you accept the lender match. That is the only inquiry that posts to bureaus.
What is an EFA loan?
An Equipment Finance Agreement (EFA) is a structured equipment loan with a $1 buyout at the end of term. Functionally identical to a loan for tax purposes (you depreciate and own the equipment), but documented as a finance agreement. Most common structure for buyers planning to keep equipment past the financing term.
How we route the decision
The financing structure that fits depends on the actual situation. Below are the most common decision branches we walk through with buyers, in plain "if X, then Y" form.
- If Your equipment will be operated by a hired driver or operator
- Then Document the operator certification status in advance. Some lenders require proof of OSHA training, CDL, or industry-specific certification before funding on certain equipment categories.
- If You plan to bundle attachments with the base equipment
- Then Get them all on a single bill of sale and single paper. Bundled financing typically costs 50 to 100 basis points less than financing the base unit and adding attachments separately.
- If You plan to keep the equipment past the financing term
- Then Use a loan or $1 buyout EFA structure. Operating lease and FMV lease structures cost more on a keep-past-term basis because of the residual buyout.

- Then A true operating lease with FMV residual often beats loan or EFA structures. The lower payment over a shorter term, with return option at the end, fits the use case.

- Then Include the contract in the application. Contract-backed equipment finance typically prices 50 to 150 basis points better than capacity-build financing on equivalent credit.
What if something changes mid-term
Equipment loans run for 36 to 96 months. Things change. The patterns below cover the situations that come up most often during the loan term and how they typically resolve.
Business ownership change during loan term
Most equipment loans are personally guaranteed and assumable with lender consent during ownership change. The new owner submits an application similar to the original; the lender reviews and either consents or requires payoff.
Equipment lien still showing after loan payoff
Lender is required to terminate the UCC-1 within a defined window after payoff (varies by state). If termination has not occurred, request a UCC termination statement from the lender. Borrower can sometimes file UCC termination directly if lender is unresponsive.
Equipment damage during the loan term
Insurance proceeds pay off the loan balance or fund replacement equipment with lender consent. The loan does not cancel automatically with the equipment loss; coordination with lender is required.
Equipment used for something different from original purpose
Loan covenants sometimes restrict equipment use (no sub-rental, no out-of-state operation, etc.). Changing use materially without consent can trigger default. Request lender consent in writing before the change.
