Base equipment. The unit itself, in the configuration the seller is offering.

Two units of the same model can price differently based on software license tier, included consumables, and the service contract status at the time of sale.
Attachments, options, and add-ons.
Probe heads, software modules, additional licenses, and consumable starter packages appear as separate lines. Each is financeable. On medical imaging in particular, the software and license stack often costs as much as the base hardware.
Delivery, setup, and training.
Delivery, on-site installation, calibration, and operator training can run 3 to 8 percent of base price. For medical and high-touch indoor equipment, the manufacturer commonly sends a representative on site for commissioning. Negotiate the inclusion of this service into the base price rather than as a separate add-on.
Sales tax and use tax.
Sales or use tax is owed in most states and typically rolls into the financed amount; the lender remits it at closing. State conformity rules vary, and a few states offer manufacturing or production exemptions that change the math. Confirm the tax line with the seller before signing rather than discovering it at funding.
Extended warranty, service contract, and consumables.
Service and software-maintenance contracts on this class of equipment commonly run 8 to 18 percent of base price annually. Bundling the first year into the loan is standard. Bundling multiple years into the loan converts a recurring expense into a financed asset, with the same trade-off as financing any other soft cost.
Who actually finances centrifuges (lab)

The cash-rich buyer
A business that could pay cash but chooses to finance for tax benefit (Section 179 election with the financed equipment) or to preserve working capital for higher-return uses. These borrowers often look at $1 buyout structures because the tax treatment matches a purchase.
The capacity-doubling buyer
An operator adding a second shift, a second line, or duplicate equipment to meet existing demand. Cleanest story to underwrite because the demand is already documented in the historical revenue. Loan term often matches the equipment useful life rather than being shortened against perceived risk.
How lenders evaluate a centrifuges (lab) application
Underwriting on centrifuges (lab) financing weights the borrower side first and the equipment side second. The borrower factors below carry the most influence on rate, term, and down payment. Knowing how each maps to your specific situation lets you put the application together so the strong parts stand out.
- Bank statement analysis. Three to twelve months of business bank statements. Lenders look at average daily balance, monthly deposit count, NSF activity, and overall cash flow stability. This is where seasonal businesses get fairly priced if they have the records.
- Use of equipment. Will the asset generate revenue immediately, will it replace an existing producing asset, or is it additive capacity. Revenue-replacement deals close most easily.
- Time in business. The single most weighted factor for most equipment lenders. Two years in business opens up the full program menu. Under one year narrows the lender pool and often requires larger down payment.
- Owner background and depth. Years of related industry experience, prior ownership of similar equipment, and any documented success operating the asset class affect underwriting. New entrants to a class price differently from established operators expanding within their lane.
- Existing debt service. Lenders look at total monthly debt obligations against cash flow. Adding a new payment that pushes the debt service coverage ratio below 1.20 typically requires additional support or a larger down payment.
Before you sign on centrifuges (lab): what to verify
Lenders fund off the bill of sale and the seller representation. If the equipment shows up different from what is documented, the loan still funded and the discrepancy is yours to resolve. The walk below catches the issues before signing, when negotiation is still open and the cost of a fix is the seller side.
- Hours-meter or odometer history. Beyond the current reading, confirm the historical pattern of use. A unit with 4,000 hours from regular daily use is different from a unit with 4,000 hours from intermittent project work. Service records, when available, document the use pattern.
- Software and license transfer. For equipment with embedded software (modern control systems, telematics, diagnostic), confirm the software licenses transfer to the new owner. Some manufacturer software is tied to original-purchaser-only; the second-hand owner can lose access to telematics, fault-code reading, or update streams.
- Attachment compatibility. For machinery with attachments, confirm the attachments included are compatible with the base unit configuration (quick-coupler standards, hydraulic pressure ratings, mounting interfaces). Buying attachments that do not fit is a common surprise on used equipment with mixed-vintage components.
- Hour or mileage reading verified. Photographed at signing, recorded in writing on the bill of sale, and matched to the seller representation. Hours and miles are the single biggest driver of asset value at term-end.
- Comparable sales data. Pricing checked against recent comparable sales from auction sites, dealer listings, and trade publications. A unit priced 15 percent above market signals either a premium configuration or a seller hoping the buyer does not check.
- Operator manuals and documentation. Get the operator manual, service manual, and any parts catalog at the time of purchase. Replacements are sometimes available from the manufacturer but slow and expensive. Documentation is part of the asset value.
The post-funding issues we see most on centrifuges (lab)
The patterns below are not unique to centrifuges (lab). They are the standard places where equipment finance transactions surprise the borrower post-funding. Each is preventable at the application or document-review stage.
Acceptance-letter timing
The lender funds against your signed acceptance of the equipment. If the equipment arrives missing items, damaged, or not matching the bill of sale, do not sign the acceptance until the seller addresses the issue. Once acceptance is signed, the seller is funded and your leverage to resolve is dramatically reduced.
Down payment timing
Your down payment is typically due at funding, not application. Lenders verify the source of down payment funds for transactions above certain thresholds. Wiring down payment money from a personal account into the business account immediately before funding can flag the deal for additional documentation.
Insurance lapse triggers
Lenders require physical damage insurance on the financed equipment for the life of the loan, with the lender named as loss payee. If your policy lapses, the lender places force-placed insurance at three to five times the cost of an open-market policy and bills you for it. Keep proof of insurance current with the lender.
Personal guarantee scope
On most equipment loans under $250,000, owners with 20 percent or more equity sign personal guarantees. Read the guarantee language. Some guarantees are limited to the specific loan; others are continuing and cover any future borrowing from the same lender. Limit the guarantee to the specific transaction when possible.
Timeline expectations
What actually happens day-by-day, from application to equipment in service. Most buyers underestimate one or two of these steps; knowing them up front prevents surprises.
Document signing to funding
1 to 3 business days
Lender operations team processes signed docs, files UCC, and funds the seller. Wire transfers funded same-day if processed before cutoff.
Full underwriting on complex deals
5 to 10 business days
Larger transactions ($500K+) or specialty deals (medical imaging, aerospace, mining) often require deeper underwriting. Plan funding date 2-3 weeks out for these.
Refinancing existing equipment loan
2 to 4 weeks
Refinancing requires payoff of existing loan, UCC release from prior lender, and funding of new loan. The UCC release coordination drives most of the timing.
Lease end-of-term decision deadline
60 to 90 days before term end
Most lease structures require notice of intent (purchase, return, or renew) 60-90 days before term end. Missing the deadline can trigger automatic renewal or other default consequences.
Equipment delivery and inspection
1 day to 16 weeks
Wide range depending on equipment type. In-stock equipment delivers in days. Custom-configured manufacturing equipment runs 8-16 weeks. Imported equipment runs 12-24 weeks.
Application submission to decision
24 hours to 5 business days
App-only programs decision same-day or next-day. Full-financials programs run 3-5 business days as the file moves through credit, then operations.
Cost stack: what total ownership actually includes
The equipment purchase price is one line on the financed amount. The actual cost of ownership over the life of a centrifuges (lab) deal includes the items below. Buyers who only budget for the purchase price often hit cash-flow surprise within the first 12 months.
- Title transfer and registration. Titled equipment (trucks, trailers, some construction equipment) requires title transfer and registration. State-specific fees from $50 to $500+.
- Insurance premiums. Commercial equipment insurance with lender named as loss payee. Annual premiums run 1 to 5 percent of equipment value depending on coverage and equipment category.
- Storage and security infrastructure. Indoor storage, security systems, and theft-prevention measures. Particularly important for landscape, construction, and small equipment frequently stored outdoors and at job sites.
- Operating consumables. Recurring costs not included in the equipment purchase: fuel, fluids, filters, tools, parts. Equipment-specific.
- Late payment fees and penalties. Late fees of 5 to 10 percent of payment if more than 10 days late. Default interest of 4 to 6 points may apply. Worth knowing before signing.
- End-of-term residual or buyout. Lease structures: fair market value buyout at term end (FMV lease) or stated residual amount (TRAC lease). Loan/EFA structures: $1 buyout or no buyout. Plan for this from day one on lease structures.
- Installation and commissioning. Site preparation, electrical, plumbing, leveling, calibration, and operational commissioning. Runs 5 to 25 percent of equipment price depending on equipment category.
- Documentation and dealer fees. Lender doc fee runs $150 to $1,500. Dealer doc fee varies. Both may roll into financed amount or pay at signing.
What if something changes mid-term
Equipment loans run for 36 to 96 months. Things change. The patterns below cover the situations that come up most often during the loan term and how they typically resolve.
Equipment used for something different from original purpose
Loan covenants sometimes restrict equipment use (no sub-rental, no out-of-state operation, etc.). Changing use materially without consent can trigger default. Request lender consent in writing before the change.
Equipment becomes obsolete or no longer useful
Sell the equipment with lender consent (UCC release coordination), apply proceeds to loan payoff. If sale proceeds are below payoff, the deficiency becomes owed. Voluntary surrender to lender is sometimes available as an alternative.
Equipment serial number does not match UCC filing
Identify the error (dealer substitution, lender filing error, etc.) and resolve before subsequent financing. The UCC needs to match the actual collateral for enforceability. Lender amendment of the UCC handles this in most cases.
Lender becomes difficult to work with
Most equipment loans are assumable or assignable with lender consent. Refinancing to a different lender is the more common path. Document the issues clearly; the situation rarely improves and the alternatives exist.
